Healthcare organizations around the globe are united around the goal of providing positive patient outcomes to members of the communities they serve. Advancements in virtual care technologies are playing a vital role in this mission by enabling healthcare organizations to expand the ways in which their patients access and consume care. Video enabled telehealth solutions facilitate greater access to primary and specialty care as well as many additional uses cases, such as patient observation. Virtual care solutions are changing the patient experience and bringing together the healthcare continuum to deliver care to patients when and where they need it.

Telehealth’s Emergence As A Must-Have Option
The COVID-19 pandemic rapidly accelerated the adoption of virtual solutions and dispelled many of the perceived barriers to the use of telehealth — from both patients and providers. Healthcare organizations and systems rushed to implement or expand telehealth offerings and revise policies in a rapid shift that will have a lasting impact on the healthcare industry. This whitepaper discusses how healthcare organizations can take a more strategic approach to scaling their telehealth capabilities and business models to expand on access to care and profitability for long-term success.
A global children’s hospital organization is deploying Iron Bow’s CLINiC telehealth technology and services to provide pediatric specialty care around the world. Before, many children in need of such care had to travel hundreds of miles from their homes and often required air transportation. This was simply impossible for some children, especially in impoverished areas. Now, the CLINiC and its peripherals such as medical scopes are supporting world-class care in even the most remote places.
A large hospital system in Florida wanted to offer telehealth to remain competitive in a market that was demanding and expecting innovative care solutions. Building their own solution was proving to be too time consuming, not allowing the growth the system was looking to achieve. The group chose Iron Bow’s CLINiC solution – a video-based, peripheral-ready and user-friendly system – for deployment in multiple disciplines, from the ER to neurology, at the various hospitals.
A children’s hospital sought to reduce inter-hospital transfers by gaining the ability to conduct video visits in patient rooms. The group began using in Iron Bow’s MedView, which uses existing in-room infotainment screens for video consultation displays. The hospital also uses Iron Bow’s video-based CLINiC to provide telehealth consults to its own and partner affiliates’ patients. The CLINiC offers efficient delivery of remote healthcare, clinical information and patient/provider education while meeting all of the hospital’s workflow, use case and ease-of-use requirements.
A Pacific coast health system faced challenges familiar to many rural systems: It had too few providers, especially specialists, to adequately care for its far-flung and isolated patients. The system adopted Iron Bow’s CLINiC as its telehealth solution, and uses it to provide stroke care in its four hospitals’ ERs. The CLINiC also supports the organ transplant program by helping to conduct candidate evaluations, check in on wait-listed patients, and provide follow-up care to recipients.
A large nonprofit health system sought greater efficiency for its acute behavioral healthcare in northern Michigan, where it could take 48 hours for providers to travel and complete psychological evaluations of in-crisis patients. Meantime, such patients occupied hospital beds and required round-the-clock police guards to ensure they did not hurt themselves. With the CLINiC, Iron Bow’s video-based telehealth solution, the health system can now perform evaluations in four hours through video connections with physicians working from their offices or homes.
A large nonprofit health system recently used Iron Bow’s CLINiC telehealth solution to intervene in the stroke of a 38-year-old mother of three. A health-system neurologist was on the road traveling when he was called and alerted to the situation by medical staff. He pulled off at a truck stop and used its WiFi to connect his laptop to our CLINiC device being used by responders at the patient’s home. He evaluated the patient and supervised administration of TPA, avoiding the need for a high-cost emergency airlift and quite possibly saving the woman’s life.
